Nyoma, Nov 29:
The Sheep Husbandry Department Nyoma organised a Sheep Camp under the National Livestock Mission (NLM) at Nyoma village, aiming to strengthen livestock-based livelihoods in the region.
Director Sheep Husbandry Department, Dr. Iftikar Hussain, graced the event as Chief Guest, accompanied by Dr. Tundup Namgyal, Deputy Director PGF Upshi.
Welcoming the participants, Assistant Director PGF Nyoma, Dr. Mohd Sadiq, outlined the objectives of the NLM programme and its significance in supporting local breeders.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Iftikar highlighted the economic importance of sheep and goat herding in Changthang, stressing its vital role in sustaining rural households. Dr. Tundup Namgyal further underlined the contribution of herding to high-quality pashmina production and its impact on overall rural development.
As part of the programme, prizes were distributed under NLM, including awards for the highest sheep and goat population, top pashmina producer, highest ovine population, along with 10 consolation prizes for breeders with the highest livestock numbers in their respective villages.
