
Leh, Dec 3: Marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), the School Education Department (SED) today inaugurated a new accessibility lift at the Chief Education Office (CEO) Leh, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to barrier-free, inclusive infrastructure.
The lift was jointly inaugurated by President PAGIR, Thukjey Tashi; Member and former President PAGIR, Tsewang Dorjey; Director School Education Department, Tashi Dolma; and CEO Leh, Deldan Angmo.
Director SED, Tashi Dolma, said the initiative reflects the Department’s resolve to ensure that persons with disabilities can easily access government offices and benefit from all services. She noted that the lift has been designed specifically to address the needs of individuals with physical disabilities, strengthening the Department’s inclusive framework.
PAGIR Member and Ex-President, Tsewang Dorjey, welcomed the step, stating that the lift will significantly improve mobility for wheelchair users and others who previously faced challenges navigating the multi-floor building. He added that accessible infrastructure not only enhances convenience but also expands employment and participation opportunities for persons with disabilities.
President PAGIR, Thukjey Tashi, also appreciated the Education Department’s efforts to prioritise accessibility and promote equal access for all citizens.
