Kargil, October 27, 2025:
Shri Rudra Goud P.T., IAS, Secretary, Animal, Sheep Husbandry & Fisheries Department and Power Department, UT Ladakh, visited the Pashmina Goat Farm, Khangral, on October 26 to assess its overall functioning and ongoing developmental activities.
The visit focused on reviewing livestock management, fodder development, and infrastructure works, including the construction of a new hay shed under the Special Development Package (SDP) 2024–25, aimed at ensuring proper fodder storage for the winter months.
During the inspection, the Secretary interacted with officers, reviewed livestock and fodder sections, and emphasized scientific management practices, improved breeding, and efficient resource utilization to enhance Pashmina wool quality and productivity.
He also reviewed the progress of developmental projects and directed officials to ensure timely completion with strict quality control, maximizing benefits for local livestock farmers.
Shri Goud was accompanied by Dr. Iftikhar Hussain, Director, Sheep Husbandry Department, UT Ladakh, along with the Director of Animal Husbandry, Chief Engineer, PDD, and other senior officers. Dr. Zakir Hussain, Officer In-Charge, Pashmina Goat Farm, briefed the Secretary on ongoing initiatives for Pashmina goat conservation, fodder and pasture development, and genetic improvement for sustainable production in Kargil district.
Later, the Secretary also visited the Yak Breeding Farm, Bodhkharbu, where he reviewed the farm’s operations and ongoing initiatives. He was welcomed by Dr. Ghulam Mohd, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Kargil, who provided an overview of the farm’s activities and progress.
