Kargil, July 01: In a major boost to tourism promotion in Kargil district, Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today inaugurated the newly developed Barburchey View Point at Sankoo, calling it a significant step towards showcasing the region’s natural beauty, culture and tourism potential.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Councillor Sankoo Syed Ahmad Razvi, former MLA Syed Baqir, Tourism Department officials, SDM Office representatives, religious leaders and local residents.
Appreciating the efforts of local youth Zakir Parwana, whose vision and dedication led to the development of the scenic viewpoint, CEC Akhoon said such initiatives reflect the growing role of youth in shaping the future of tourism in Kargil.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Akhoon said the administration is working to increase the average stay of tourists in Kargil from three days to six days, which would generate more employment and livelihood opportunities for local youth. He highlighted the importance of promoting pilgrimage tourism, cultural tourism and Sankoo’s rich heritage.
The CEC also emphasized the importance of education, entrepreneurship and self-employment, urging youth to explore opportunities beyond traditional government jobs. He spoke about upcoming subsidy schemes and the new industrial policy aimed at encouraging local entrepreneurs.
Highlighting development initiatives, Dr. Akhoon said efforts are underway to strengthen sports and tourism infrastructure, including development of parks, walking tracks, playgrounds and sports facilities. He also proposed organizing activities under the Suru Festival at Barburchey View Point to attract more visitors.
Councillor Syed Ahmad Razvi praised Zakir Parwana’s initiative and urged departments to further promote Sankoo’s historical, cultural and natural attractions while improving connectivity to tourist destinations.
Zakir Parwana thanked LAHDC Kargil, officials and the people of Sankoo for their support, stating that Barburchey View Point is only the beginning of a larger vision to develop more tourism attractions in the region.
