Kargil, November 2:
The Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kargil-I was held today at the KVK Conference Hall, Kurbathang, Kargil. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Kashmir, and graced by Er. Feroz Ahmad Khan, Executive Councillor, LAHDC-Kargil, as the Chief Guest.
Among the dignitaries present were Prof. Azmat Alam Khan, Registrar SKUAST-K; Prof. Rehana Habib Kanth, Director Extension SKUAST-K; Dr. Faizan Ahmad, Dean, School of Agricultural Science and Technology, University of Ladakh (Kargil Campus); Ashiq Hussain Basharat, Chief Agriculture Officer; Dr. Gulzar Hussain, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer; Dr. Niyaz-ul-Hassanain, District Sheep Husbandry Officer; Ali Raza, Chief Horticulture Officer; Dr. Mehdi Akhoon, Head KVK Kargil-II; and Dr. Nasreen Fatima, Head KVK Kargil-I.
Scientists, progressive farmers, and members of the media also attended the meeting, which focused on strengthening research–extension–farmer linkages and promoting modern agricultural technologies suited to Ladakh’s challenging climatic conditions.
Progressive farmers highlighted the need for scientific interventions, field demonstrations, and better coordination between research institutions and government departments to ensure that innovations benefit farmers directly.
Executive Councillor Feroz Ahmad Khan appreciated the initiatives of SKUAST-K and KVKs in improving farmers’ livelihoods and called for solutions tailored to local agro-climatic realities.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai emphasized the importance of collaborative and science-based approaches to achieve sustainable agricultural development in Ladakh.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthen institutional collaboration and accelerate the transfer of agricultural technologies to the grassroots level.
