Leh: With an objective to avoid any untoward incidents or road mishap, the administration of Ladakh has made anti-skid chains mandatory for vehicles plying in snow covered roads and set Rs 1000 fine for violations of rules.
“In exercise of the power conferred by section 115 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (Act No. 59 of 1988), the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh hereby directs that the following restriction be imposed for ensuring public safety or convenience, taking into consideration the nature of any road or bridge,” reads the order by commissioner Secretary Saugat Biswas
“All public/private vehicles plying on the snow covered roads in the Union territory shall use anti-skid chains tied with tyres mandatorily for ensuring public safety.” Violation of this notification shall be punishable with a fine of t1000/-(Rupees/one/thousand/only) under section 179 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988,” the order further reads.
