KARGIL, JUNE 16: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, attended the final match and closing ceremony of the District Police Kargil Civic Action Programme (CAP) Sports Event 2026 held at the Futsal Ground, Baroo.
Organised by District Police Kargil, the sports event aimed to promote sportsmanship, youth engagement and positive community participation through various sporting activities.
The football final witnessed a dominant performance by RLC Baroo, which defeated Poyen by a massive 9-1 margin to lift the championship trophy.
Among those present on the occasion were DySP Headquarters Inayatullah, DSP Security Syed, DySP DAR Tundup Dorjay, SHO Kacho Sadat and other officers and officials of District Police Kargil.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Jaffer Akhoon lauded Ladakh Police and SSP Kargil Nitin Yadav for successfully organising the sports event under the Civic Action Programme. He said sports play a vital role in promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, discipline, teamwork and leadership qualities among youth.
The CEC congratulated District Police Kargil for providing a constructive platform to young sportspersons and encouraged students and players to actively participate in sports. He highlighted the growing opportunities available through sports quotas in government services and competitive events at national and international levels.
Reaffirming the commitment of the Administration and LAHDC Kargil towards sports development, Dr. Akhoon said efforts are underway to strengthen sports infrastructure and develop modern facilities across the region. He noted that several athletes from Ladakh are already making their mark at national and international platforms and urged young players to draw inspiration from their achievements.
In a major announcement, the CEC informed that the much-awaited Chilling Ice Rink will soon become operational, creating new opportunities for winter sports enthusiasts in the district.
He also reiterated the Council’s commitment to transparency, accountability and merit-based opportunities in both education and sports sectors. Congratulating the winning and runner-up teams, he encouraged all participants to continue striving for excellence through hard work and dedication.
During the closing ceremony, medals, trophies, mementoes and cash prizes were distributed among winners, runners-up, participants, officials and departments associated with the successful conduct of the event.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by the DSP Headquarters, who acknowledged the support of the Football Association Kargil, Kargil Press Club, Information Department and other stakeholders for contributing to the success of the event.
