
Respite for stranded commuters as 380 passenger vehicles usher towards Kargil
Leh: Divisional Commissioner/Secretary Transport, UT Ladakh Saugat Biswas informed that with relentless efforts of BROs Projects Beacon and Vijayak, assisted by the District Administration Kargil, Sonamarg was opened Thursday for vehicular movement, however in a regulated manner.
This development has brought respite to stranded commuters of Kargil and Leh districts, other than migrant labourers and tourists travelling to Kargil/Leh via Srinagar.
Divisional Commissioner Biswas informed that with precision and careful monitoring of the weather conditions, as many as 380 passenger vehicles (LMVs and MPVs) crossed Sonamarg towards Kargil/Leh.
While the remaining vehicles shall be ushered towards Kargil today April 28, subject to favourable weather conditions. Further, it was informed that 232 passenger vehicles have crossed Minamarg towards Kargil.
It is pertinent to mention that due to continued unfavorable weather conditions with subsequent avalanches, the road connecting Ladakg and Srinagar had been closed for the past eight days to ensure safety of the commuters.
