Renowned poet, Balti cultural ambassador Haji Mohammad Jan passes away at 99


Kargil: In a somber announcement today, the Balti community in Ladakh, mourns the loss of Haji Mohammad Jan, a distinguished poet and cultural icon, who passed away at the age of 99.

Originally hailing from Pari Baltistan, Haji Mohammad Jan found his home in Kalsigate, where he became renowned for his literary prowess and unwavering commitment to preserving and promoting the rich Balti cultural heritage.

Throughout his life, Haji Mohammad Jan penned eight volumes of poetry dedicated to Hazrat Imam Hussain and Ahlaebaet AS, showcasing his deep reverence and devotion to his faith. His profound verses resonated with readers far and wide, earning him widespread acclaim as a wordsmith of exceptional talent.

Recognizing his invaluable contributions, the Association of Baltis for Himalaya & Territories of Indus in collaboration with Balti Research and Study Centre Kargil led by President Bashir Ahmad Wafa, convened a Condolence Meeting to honor his memory at Kargil, Ladakh.

President Wafa praised Haji Mohammad Jan as a man of unwavering courage and resilience, who tirelessly championed the cause of his culture and language.

In his remarks, President Wafa emphasized Haji Mohammad Jan’s profound love for his heritage, highlighting his role as a stalwart defender of Balti language and culture. The gathering paid tribute to his indomitable spirit and enduring legacy, affirming his place as a cultural luminary whose influence will continue to resonate for generations to come.
