Leh: The fourth day of the ongoing five-day workshop-cum-training programme on “Product Certification and Training for Women SHG Members” under the RAMP initiative witnessed active participation from MSMEs across sectors at the Conference Hall, District Industries Centre (DIC), Leh.
The programme is being organised by the Industries & Commerce Department, UT Ladakh in collaboration with the Food Safety Department, Ladakh.
Sh. Thinley Nurbu, Block Investigator, DIC Leh, welcomed the participants and stressed the importance of product certification, quality assurance, branding and market readiness for Women Self Help Groups (SHGs) and MSMEs, particularly in the food processing sector. He noted that such capacity-building initiatives under the RAMP Programme aim to enhance competitiveness and formalization of local enterprises.
Around 40 SHG members and MSME representatives participated in the session. The State Programme Implementation Unit (SPIU), RAMP Ladakh, delivered a detailed presentation outlining the objectives, interventions and support mechanisms available under the programme.
Ms. Tsering Diskit, Food Analyst from the Food Safety Department, Leh, conducted an informative session on the importance of FSSAI registration and compliance with food safety standards. A live demonstration of the FSSAI registration process was also held to provide hands-on guidance to participants.
The session further highlighted the significance of branding, labelling and packaging for value addition and improved market realization. Ms. Fariha Fatima from EDII Ladakh shared innovative approaches and success stories of young entrepreneurs from the region to inspire SHG members.
Post-lunch, participants visited Royal Enfield Pitstop Kharu, where Manager Sh. Thinley Dorjey explained operational practices, hygiene standards, safe food handling and quality control measures essential for sustainable growth.
The workshop concluded with an awareness session on various schemes of the Industries & Commerce Department, including PMEGP and PMFME, along with on-the-spot UDYAM registration for participants. A vote of thanks marked the close of the day’s proceedings.
The initiative marks another significant step toward strengthening women-led enterprises and promoting formalization and quality compliance among MSMEs in UT Ladakh.
