Kargil, February 16: The ongoing five-day Workshop-cum-Training Programme on “Product Certification and Training for Women SHG Members” witnessed enthusiastic participation on its third day, with nearly 45 Women Self Help Group (SHG) members and MSME representatives from the food processing sector attending the session in Kargil.
The programme, being held at the Conference Hall of the District Industries Centre (DIC), is conducted under the RAMP (Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance) Programme by the Industries & Commerce Department, UT Ladakh, in collaboration with the Food Safety Department, Kargil.
Addressing the participants, Sh. Lobzang Lungtok, Industrial Promotion Officer, DIC Kargil, underlined the importance of product certification, quality assurance, branding, and market readiness in empowering Women SHGs and strengthening MSMEs. He elaborated that the RAMP initiative aims to enhance competitiveness, sustainability, and formalization of local enterprises. A detailed presentation outlining the objectives, interventions, and support mechanisms available under the programme was also delivered.
Mr. Gazanfar Ali, Food Safety Officer, HQ Kargil, conducted an informative session highlighting the necessity of FSSAI registration and strict adherence to prescribed food safety standards. To provide practical exposure, a live demonstration of the FSSAI registration process was carried out, enabling participants to understand the compliance procedures in a hands-on manner.
The workshop also focused on the significance of effective branding, labeling, and packaging as key drivers for value addition and better market returns. Success stories of young entrepreneurs from Ladakh were shared to inspire the SHG members and MSME unit holders.
As part of the programme, participants undertook a field visit to M/S Kargil Dairy Products Unit, where they were briefed on dairy production processes. Officials conducted detailed technical demonstrations on milk packaging, curd processing, and paneer production, offering practical insights into modern food processing techniques.
The workshop continues to serve as a crucial platform for capacity building, equipping women entrepreneurs and MSME stakeholders in Kargil with the knowledge and tools required to scale up their ventures and ensure compliance with national standards.
