Kargil: A day-long career counselling and workshop on Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan Yojana (previously PMSSS) was held on Wednesday at Government Degree College, Kargil by Nodal Officer/Consultant, PMSSS, J&K and Ladakh, AICTE, Professor Ajeet Angral.

Apart from Additional Secretary, Higher Education/Joint Director,Information, Ladakh, Imteaaz Kacho and Principal, GDC-Kargil, Dr. Amina Qari, students from across colleges and schools accompanied by nodal officers and faculty members were present on the occasion.

During his thought provoking and enriching session, Professor Ajeet Angral gave a detailed presentation on various aspects of the scheme including its objectives, eligibility, general overview, scholarship, requirements for professional and non-professional courses, process of registration and overview of the scheme.

Further, he said that the purpose of the scheme is to financially assist the students to continue with their higher education.

Professor Angral interacted with the students and had one-on-one discussions with them regarding various aspects of the scheme. He motivated students to speak their heart out without hesitation and express their inhibitions/concerns about the scheme.

He appreciated the sincere efforts of Commissioner/Secretary, Higher Education,Padma Angmo towards making the scheme successful in Ladakh and for constantly taking regular updates from him besides taking up crucial issues.

He thanked the Additional Secretary Imteeaz Kacho for taking personal interest in the event and assured commitment for conducting similar events in future as well in Ladakh. He also appreciated the efforts of Principal Dr. Amina Qari for organising the interactive session in the College.

The Additional Secretary advised students to take maximum benefit from the scheme. He reiterated that the Higher Education Department is committed to helping and guiding students in pursuit of academic growth and excellence.

He informed that Nodal Officers are in place for redressal of grievances of students and for counselling them. Kacho said such workshops are necessary and should become a regular feature in every college. He later advised aspiring PMUSP candidates to use their own email addresses and personal phone numbers while filling application forms.

Earlier, in her welcome address, Principal GDC-Kargil, Dr. Amina Qari thanked Professor Ajeet Angral for travelling all the way to Kargil and conducting the important workshop which was expected to have positive outcomes. A detailed question-answer session also followed after the career counselling session.
