Police arrest shopkeeper selling Cool Lip Tobacco in Leh


LEH: Ladakh Police has taken a firm stance against public health hazards by initiating legal action against shopkeepers found selling the banned Cool Lip Tobacco within the jurisdiction of Leh District on Monday.

The sale and consumption of tobacco and its derivatives have long been recognized as significant threats to public health, and the sale of Cool Lip Tobacco, in particular, has raised serious concerns due to its detrimental effects.

In a recent development, Leh Police identified and apprehended a shopkeeper’s salesperson Deachan Yangzes, W/O Sonam Paljor, and resident of Agling Leh, for unlawfully selling 26 Packets of Cool Lip Tobacco product. The case, registered under FIR No. 66/2024 U/S: 188 IPC at Police Station Leh, stands as a testament to the rigorous surveillance and enforcement measures undertaken by the authorities.

The apprehended individual confessed to receiving the Cool Lip Tobacco from a mobile wholesale distributor approximately 20-25 days prior and had been engaged in its sale since then.

The sale and possession of Cool Lip Tobacco have been prohibited in Leh District by the order of the District Magistrate Leh vide Order No: JC-97(Misc)2024(903).

This decisive action reaffirms the commitment of Ladakh Police to uphold the rule of law and prioritize the well-being of citizens. Stringent enforcement measures will persist to deter the unlawful trade of hazardous substances and foster a healthier environment for all residents of Leh District.
