Srinagar: Mr. Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey, Chief Justice, High Court of J&K and Ladakh and Patron in Chief, J&K and Ladakh Legal Services Authorities while interacting with judicial officers of the Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh on the first day of his office after taking oath as Chief Justice of the High Court asked the officers that incase they want to felicitate him on his adorning the office of the Chief Justice, they should ensure maximum disposal of cases in the coming week concluding with Special LokAdalat scheduled to be held on Friday, October 21, 2022 across the UTs of J&K and Ladakh.
He said issue of pendency of cases is a huge challenge and the statistics of UTs of J&K and Ladakh on National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG) is showing surge in pendency of cases. He further said that a smart number, out these pending cases can be disposed through ADR mechanism especially LokAdalat. In this connection,J&K Legal Services Authority and Ladakh Legal Services Authority are organizing a Special LokAdalat on 21st October, 2022 across the UTs of J&K and Ladakh. The Chief Justice emphasized that maximum disposal in this special LokAdalat would not only lessen the pendency of cases but would also give a solace to the litigants.
Justice Magrey impressed upon the Judicial Officers especially Secretaries DLSA’s to educate the masses about the benefits of resolution of disputes through ADR mechanism especially LokAdalat. He said that as opposed to the orders of regular courts, no right of appeal exists against the order of the LokAdalat. The rationale for the same lies in the unique functioning of the forum in so far as the order is always passed through mutual consent and settlement of parties.
The Special LokAdalat is being convened under the patronage of Mr. Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey, the Chief Justice and under the guidance of Mr. Justice Tashi Rabstan, Executive Chairman, Ladakh Legal Services Authority and Mr. Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Chairman High Court Legal Services Committee.
