Leh: A delegation from the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth & Sports, led by Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh, undertook a significant visit to various prominent educational institutions in Leh to assess the region’s educational development and challenges.
The Committee began its visit at the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives Ladakh (HIAL), where members interacted with faculty and students, learning about the institute’s innovative approach to contextual education, sustainability, and real-life learning in high-altitude conditions.
Following this, the delegation visited the Students’ Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL) campus, a grassroots initiative that has pioneered alternative education in Ladakh for decades. The team engaged with the students and staff, gaining insights into SECMOL’s unique learning model, which focuses on experiential learning, self-reliance, and environmental consciousness.
The Committee also visited PM SHRI Government Primary School, Spituk, and Druk Padma Karpo School, where they were warmly welcomed by the school principals, teachers, and students. At Druk Padma Karpo School, students greeted the delegation with traditional Khataks and a welcome song, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of Ladakh.
These visits are part of the Committee’s broader initiative to understand ground realities in education and youth development across the country, especially in remote and high-altitude regions like Ladakh.
