Leh: Iftiqar Hussain, a young and determined paracyclist from LAHDC and the Aditya Mehta Foundation, has created history by winning a silver medal in the juniors category (C2) at the first National Paracycling Championship, held on 30 March in Hyderabad.

The championship was conducted by the National Federation, and Iftiqar’s achievement marks a significant milestone for para sports in Ladakh and India.

Despite being a Class 10 student, Iftiqar showed exceptional dedication, balancing his academics with intense training in Hyderabad. His hard work and perseverance have paid off, proving that determination and the right support system can break barriers.

Under the visionary leadership of CEC Adv. Tashi Gyalson, Ladakh is committed to nurturing para-athletes and ensuring they have the best training opportunities.

While the World High-Altitude High-Performance Parasports Center, in association with the Aditya Mehta Foundation, is set to begin construction soon, 15 para-athletes from Ladakh are already training at the foundation’s facility in Hyderabad, receiving world-class coaching and support.

At the same time, Ladakh is not waiting for infrastructure to be built before its athletes start winning medals. The focus remains on empowering para-athletes now, ensuring they get the training and opportunities they deserve.

CEC Advocate Tashi Gyalson appreciates the dedication and efforts of the coaches and staff at the Aditya Mehta Foundation, who are nurturing para-athletes and making Ladakh proud.

Their commitment to training and empowering athletes with disabilities is instrumental in shaping future champions.

With a strong commitment towards the 2028 Paralympics vision, this victory is just the beginning. Ladakh is determined to produce world-class para-athletes who will represent India on the global stage and bring home laurels.
