One-day orientation program on Gender Responsive Budgeting in Ladakh


Leh: The Social and Tribal Welfare Department (Hub For Empowerment of Women) Mission Shakti, Ladakh organized the second leg of Gender Responsive Budgeting orientation programme in Leh district on 9th April at the DC Conference Hall, after organizing the same in Kargil district on April 8th.

The orientation programme aims to familiarize and build capacities, knowledge and skills of the government officials and other stakeholders on integrating gender in planning and budgeting across all sectors such as Health, Education, Economy and Polity signifying the importance of gender responsive budgeting.

Resource person Professor Dr Vibhuti Patel gave a presentation on the know-how of gender responsive budgeting entailing details of gender analysis of Union Budget, Sub-national Budget and Local Self Government Budgets; Identification of Practical Gender Needs and Gender Budgeting; Processes in formulation of Evidence based public policy, allocation of Budget for programme implementation and financial utilization.

At the outset, Director, Social and Tribal Welfare Department, UT Ladakh, Tashi Dolma welcomed the resource person and introduced the need and aim of organizing training on Gender Budgeting the nascent UT of Ladakh.

A short video on gender budgeting in different states was also screened during the programme along with an interactive question and answer session.

The programme was attended by Director Finance; ADDC Leh; CPO Leh; DSWO Leh; DDOs/HoDs of various departments; officials and staff of Mission Shakti and Social and Tribal Welfare Department.
