NEW DELHI : Indian Army is holding a performance to honour the heroic men who perished in the deadly fight of Rezang La in November 1962.
“The battle of Rezang La was brutally fought in November 1962… there can be no more worthy venue than Rezang La to pay a tribute to the Bravehearts,” stated Fire & Fury Corps Commander Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta.
The Charlie Company of the 13 Kumaon Battalion, Kumaon Regiment, fought a Chinese onslaught at Rezang La Pass in Ladakh on November 18, 1962, in the battle of Rezang La. Maj. Shaitan Singh led a company of 120 men, and 110 were slain in the attack.
Sengupta will present the website for the Ladakh International Musical Festival as well as the festival’s schedule.
“This is the first time in Leh that a collaborative event of this scale is being arranged,” he added.
Ladakh was constituted as a union territory when the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act was passed, with Leh as its capital. The Centre has taken tremendous steps to develop the isolated city since this shift.
The Manali-Leh roadway was recently reopened to tourists, providing public access to Shinkula beyond Darcha.
Tourism stakeholders in the Lahaul valley have been asking for this change for a long time, and the public’s ability to travel on the highway in light vehicles will boost the area’s tourism economy.
