Kargil: The District Kargil Olympic Association extends its warmest congratulations to Team India for securing the Bronze Medal at the prestigious Women’s Ice Hockey Cup 2025, held in the United Arab Emirates.
This proud achievement highlights the growing excellence of Indian athletes in winter sports, with a significant contribution from players hailing from Union Territory Ladakh.
In a special message, Syed Mehraj Uddin Shah, General Secretary of the District Kargil Olympic Association, congratulated Rigzin Yangdol, daughter of Late Tsewang Tashi and Phuntsog Angmo, a resident of Kukshow Solpon Pa, Kargil, for her remarkable contribution as a member of the Indian national team.
“Rigzin Yangdol has made history as the first woman ice hockey player from Kargil district. Coming from the remote village of Kukshow, she has broken barriers and proven that talent knows no boundaries. Her achievement is not just a personal victory but a symbol of hope and inspiration for the youth of Kargil and the entire Ladakh region,” said Shah.
He emphasized that the majority of players representing Team India in this tournament were from Ladakh, underscoring the region’s emerging reputation as a powerhouse for winter sports, particularly ice hockey.
“This victory is a testament to the potential of our youth and the need to invest in sports infrastructure and training in remote areas like Kargil,” he added.
The District Kargil Olympic Association takes immense pride in this achievement and reaffirms its commitment to supporting and promoting sports talent across the district.
The Association also urges the government and relevant authorities to continue encouraging and investing in winter sports in Ladakh to ensure more such successes at national and international levels.
