Partapur, Dec 7: The Sheep Husbandry Department, Nubra organised a Breeder Awareness Camp under the National Livestock Mission, attracting over 150 villagers keen to adopt modern livestock practices. The event aimed to promote scientific rearing, sustainable livelihoods, and economic resilience in the region.
The programme began with a welcome by Sh. Mohd Ibrahim, Nambardar of Partapur, who lauded the department for its efforts to empower rural communities. Sh. Ghulam Mohd, Flock Inspector, educated participants on government schemes offering 75% subsidies for chain link fencing, bio-fertiliser plants, Charkhas for SHGs, and livestock units.
Dr. Rauful Hassan, Livestock Development Officer, Nubra, highlighted schemes like Sheep/Goat Units and Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loans, explaining the benefits of organic farming using livestock manure, goat milk for nutrition and cosmetics, and economic opportunities from wool, milk, and manure. He encouraged breeders to market their products through Farmers Producers Organisations (FPOs) and briefed them on the Intensive Wool Development Programme (IWDP), which supports predator-proof corrals and electric fencing.
Captain Anubhuti Jyotishi, from the RVC Centre, Partapur, emphasised the role of livestock in enhancing rural well-being and assured continued departmental support. During the camp, a predator-proof corral was distributed at 75% subsidy to a breeder with 70–80 animals.
The interactive session saw villagers expressing interest in shearing machines, chain link fencing, and Charkhas, with the department assuring timely facilitation under relevant schemes.
