Kargil, November 28, 2025:
The Archery Association of UT Ladakh successfully conducted the NTPC Senior National Archery Selection Trial 2025 at the Khree Sultan Cho Sports Stadium, Biamathang, offering a crucial platform for Ladakhi archers aiming to qualify for the upcoming National Senior Archery Championship in Telangana.
The event was graced by Executive Councillor & Acting CEC Kacho Mohd Feroz as the Chief Guest and Deputy Commissioner/CEO LAHDC Kargil Rakesh Kumar (IAS) as the Guest of Honour. Joint Director Youth Services & Sports, UT Ladakh, Tahir Hussain Zabdavi (JKAS) attended as the Special Guest. Senior officials and members of the Archery Association were also present.
The programme began with a traditional welcome followed by a detailed introduction by Mr. D. Alex, who recalled Ladakh’s journey in archery since 1986, highlighting the revival of structured training and competitive trials after the Association secured affiliation three years ago.
Acting CEC Kacho Mohd Feroz, in his address, said archery, ice hockey, and horse polo are integral to Ladakh’s identity. He assured that the Council is committed to resolving issues such as land allotment for archery facilities and improving sports infrastructure.
“Ladakh has immense potential in traditional and modern sports. We will continue to support our athletes so they shine at national and international platforms,” he said.
DC Rakesh Kumar (IAS) applauded the organisers’ efforts despite challenges and stressed the need to hold more events at grassroots levels to identify young talent.
He said the administration is working toward making Ladakh a multi-sport excellence hub.
Joint Director Tahir Hussain Zabdavi underlined archery’s historical significance and reiterated the department’s support for coaching, infrastructure, and upcoming UT-level events. He announced that a UT-level archery competition will be conducted before March.
The event concluded with the presentation of mementos by Kacho Shamim, who also delivered a vote of thanks while promoting the message:
“Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life.”
