Leh: National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa (NISR), Leh celebrated Ayurveda day today at the Conference Hall of NISR, Leh. Ayurveda Day is celebrated annually by the Ministry of AYUSH on Dhanvantari Jayanti.
This year it will be observed on Oct 23 in collaboration with all other Ministries and Departments of GoI so that every person in the nation is made aware of the traditional system of medicine. The Ayurveda day celebrations are being held under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative and the theme for this year is ‘Har Din Har Ghar Ayurveda’.
At NISR Leh, Ayurveda day was celebrated in the presence of the Director, NISR Leh, Dr Padma Gurmet and other officers/officials of the institute.
Technical lectures on the significance of the Ayurveda day celebration and the importance of Ayurveda, Sowa-Rigpa and other traditional medicines for public health and wellness were delivered by Dr Tsewang Dolma, Dr Nawang Tsering and Dr Rigzin Smala of the Institute.
Director, NISR Leh, Dr Padma Gurmet, delivered the keynote address on the theme ‘Har Din Har Ghar Ayurveda’. He emphasised the importance of spreading the knowledge of Ayurveda and other traditional medicine for maintaining good mental and physical health in today’s hectic life. He added that the knowledge of Ayurveda Ahaar (diet) and Vihaar (lifestyle) should be propagated among ordinary citizens to maintain a healthy life. He also highlighted the contributions of traditional medicine during the COVID-19 pandemic time.
