Newborn baby in critical condition airlifted for special care

Leh: A four-day old newborn from a remote place of Ladakh born at SNM Hospital, Leh was found to have a congenital deformity needing superspeciality care.

The baby was airlifted in a Pawan Hans helicopter accompanied by SNCU staff.

The cost of the air transfer was borne by NHM under Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakaram (JSSK).

 

Building on the progress of this safe motherhood scheme, Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakaram was launched in June 2011 to eliminate out-of-pocket expenses for both pregnant women and sick infants. 

Institutional deliveries in India increased substantially after launched ofJanani Suraksha Yojana (JSY). 

JSY ensures expenditure-less stays at health facilities on drugs, diet, and diagnosis and arrangement blood and referral to higher centres etc.
