National Seminar on Himalayan Medicinal Plants concludes in Leh

LEH: The 3-day national seminar on ‘Himalayan Medicinal Plants’ concluded with discussions and cultural performances by the students of EJM College, Leh on October 27.

In the valedictory session, Spalzin Angmo and Yogendra Prasad Saxena were recognized for their outstanding contributions, receiving awards for the best poster and oral presentations during the three-day national seminar.

Director of Sowa-Rigpa, Dr. Padma Gyurmet graced the event as the chief guest. He congratulated the college and the organizing committee.

Dr. Gyurmet provided insights into the significant projects undertaken by Sowa-Rigpa and the UT Government of Ladakh, focused on the conservation of Ladakh’s medicinal plants and biodiversity.

He urged young students to consider pursuing careers in the field of ‘Himalayan Medicinal Plants’ and contribute to the preservation and documentation of endangered plant species.

Director of Colleges, Tashi Ldawa was the guest of honor and commended the efforts and deliberations that took place during the seminar. He expressed hope that such seminars would continue to provide a platform for students and researchers to take initiatives aimed at conserving the endangered medicinal plants and biodiversity of Ladakh.

Controller of Examinations at the University of Ladakh, Dr. Deskyong Namgyal served as a special guest and stressed the importance of coherent steps to be taken by young researchers of Ladakh. He encouraged them to contribute to the ongoing research on Himalayan Medicinal plants.

Senior Assistant Professor and field expert, Dr. Arun Maurya motivated the students to take pride in their rich local habitat. He urged them to embark on research projects to further study and better understand the flora and fauna of Ladakh.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the organizing Secretary, Dr. Konchok Dorjey. Principal EJM College, Dr. Sameena Iqbal, Prof. Stanzin Yangdol, Principal of GDC Khaltse, research delegates, faculty, and students of EJM College, Leh were present during the seminar.
