Leh, December 17:
The Department of Mathematics, University of Ladakh, Leh Campus, in collaboration with Eliezer Joldan Memorial College, on Wednesday commenced the National Mathematics Day celebrations, marking the beginning of a series of academic and student-centric activities.
The programme was organised under the patronage of Vice Chancellor, University of Ladakh, Prof. Saket Kushwaha, with support from Prof. Stanzin Yangdol, Principal, Eliezer Joldan Memorial College. The inauguration signalled the start of a day-long celebration aimed at highlighting the beauty, relevance and significance of mathematics.
The event featured a presentation competition, quiz competition and a documentary screening, with active participation from faculty and students of both institutions. Ten students took part in the presentation competition, presenting topics ranging from “Mathematicians of Ancient India” and “Discovery of Zero” to “Mathematics in Daily Life”. The presentations were evaluated by a jury comprising Dr Jyoti Falswal, Dr Irshad Ahmad and Dr Masoom Reza from the University of Ladakh.
A documentary on the life and contributions of Srinivasa Ramanujan was also screened, followed by a quiz competition based on his life and works, which saw participation from 19 students.
The celebrations witnessed enthusiastic student participation, with the results of the competitions scheduled to be announced during the concluding programme on December 22, which will include an expert lecture and prize distribution ceremony.
