Leh : A week-long National Training Program for Booth Level Officers (BLOs) began today at Panchayat Hall, Agling Leh, under the supervision of the District Election Officer (DEO), Leh.
The training program, which will continue until July 15, 2025, is aimed at enhancing the efficiency, transparency, and inclusivity of the electoral process at the grassroots level.
The inaugural session opened with a welcome address by Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) Ghulam Mohammad, who is also the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Leh. He emphasized the vital role BLOs play in maintaining the integrity of electoral rolls and ensuring fair democratic processes.
Chief Electoral Officer (Incharge) Sonam Chosjor, in his address, acknowledged the hard work of BLOs and highlighted their essential responsibilities, including door-to-door verification of voters, making necessary corrections, and facilitating new voter registration. He also underscored the importance of cooperation between BLOs and Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to ensure updated and inclusive electoral rolls.
The training featured interactive sessions led by State Level Master Trainer (SLMT) Chozin Palmo, along with resource persons Kunzang Dolma and Kunzes Angmo. Through PowerPoint presentations and field-based scenarios, the sessions aimed to equip BLOs with practical knowledge, clear protocols, and ethical standards for their duties.
The program specifically engaged BLOs from Neymo Tehsil, who participated actively and with great enthusiasm. At the end of the first day, certificates were distributed to all participants, acknowledging their involvement and preparedness to carry out electoral duties responsibly.
As per the training schedule, each day will host 50 participants in a session that includes BLOs, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), and BLO Supervisors to ensure effective interaction and meaningful discussion. The District Election Office reaffirmed its commitment to building a strong, transparent, and citizen-inclusive electoral system through such continuous training and capacity-building initiatives.
Around 50 officials, including Assistant CEO Deleks Namgyal, Deputy DEO Padma Angmo, BLO Supervisors, BLOs, and election staff, attended the first day of the program.
