Music, painting competition, literary festival held at GMDC Zanskar as part of Zanskar Festival

Kargil: On spot music, painting competition and a literary festival was organized today at Govt. Model Degree College Zanskar as part of Zanskar Festival 2022.

The event was organized by Ladakh Academy of Arts and Culture, Kargil in association with GMD Zanskar and Department of Education Ladakh.

The event started with welcoming guests with traditional khataks by Abass Assistant Cultural Officer while as Nasir Shabani Principal GMDC Zanskar presented welcome speech and briefed about the events.

In the first session, an on-spot painting and music competition was held in which a good number of students of different schools of Zanskar participated.

In the music competition singers sung different Ladakhi songs that enthralled audience. Many local singers like Tsering Zangpo, Tundup and Ilyas also graced the event and presented their melodious voices.

SDM Zanskar, Sonam Dorjay was the chief guest. Many other guests, dignitaries, and hundreds of students from different schools of Zanskar also attended the events.

In his address, the SDM appreciated the college administration for their active participation in organizing many mega events in Zanskar.

Lobzang Dolma Sarpanch Ufti also spoke on the occasion and requested the concerned department to hold training in music and theatre in Zanskar. The top three students in music and painting competitions were awarded with certificates.

The literary festival aimed at promoting literary works and fostering love in literature and writing was conducted in the second session.

In the event, many student writers presented their poetry. Many other writers and author including Assistant Professors of GMDC Zanskar also presented their articles.

Dadul Assistant Professor spoke on the topic “The Next Outbreak, Dr Abdul Hamid delivered a talk on “Disaster Management”, Dr Tashi Lundup AP spoke on the topic “Zanskar in Transition” while Dr Jamphell Sheyam AP presented a talk on the topic “Blurring History: Changing Names of the villages in Zanskar”. In the end Abass Assistant Cultural Officer presented vote of thanks.
