Leh: Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Mohammad Haneefa has taken up the issue of Indian nationals, including residents of Ladakh, stranded in Iran with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), seeking urgent measures for their safe evacuation.

In a post shared on social media, the MP informed that he held a detailed meeting with the Joint Secretary of the PAI Division in the MEA regarding the situation of pilgrims, students, tullabs and other Indian citizens currently stuck in Iran amid escalating tensions.
During the meeting, the safe evacuation of all affected individuals was discussed at length. The Joint Secretary assured that the Government of India is deeply concerned about the safety of its citizens and is taking all necessary steps to ensure their protection.
With Iranian airspace presently closed and sea routes also considered risky, evacuation efforts have become more complex. Additionally, border areas of neighbouring countries are reported to be unsafe, further limiting immediate options. The Ministry is, however, actively exploring all possible alternatives to facilitate a safe evacuation.
The Indian Embassy in Iran has begun collecting data of stranded Indian nationals and is reaching out to citizens across different regions of the country to assess the ground situation and coordinate assistance.
The MP also raised specific concerns related to Ladakhi residents, including passport and visa-related issues. The Ministry assured that these matters are under examination and that full support will be extended wherever required.
For the time being, the MP has advised all Indian nationals stranded in Iran to remain at their current locations and avoid any movement until further instructions are issued. Efforts are also underway to shift individuals from high-risk areas, including Tehran and other cities reportedly facing attacks, to safer locations within Iran.
He stated that he remains in regular contact with the Ministry and will share updates as soon as they are received, reiterating that the safety of every Indian national, especially people from Ladakh, remains the top priority.
