Kargil, November 05, 2025:
Member of Parliament (MP) Ladakh undertook an extensive tour of Choskore Constituency to assess developmental requirements and address local grievances across multiple villages, including Batambis, Lobar, Archu, Kaskarik, Ringo, Thangbu, Doks, Grong, Stargah, and Motirik. The MP was accompanied by officials from various departments to ensure on-ground coordination and immediate response to issues raised by residents.
Environmental concerns dominated public interactions, with villagers voicing strong opposition to unchecked garbage dumping and pollution caused by stone crushers, which they said had become a threat to grazing lands and the local ecosystem. The MP directed concerned officials to take immediate remedial measures and promised close monitoring of compliance.
Addressing the ongoing grazing land dispute in the valley, the MP assured that the issue would be examined in detail for a fair and lasting resolution. During the visit, he also stopped at the shrine of Syed Ibrahim Shah—a heritage site of great spiritual value—and emphasized its renovation and preservation under the Kargil Development Authority.
Area Councillor Nasir Munshi proposed the construction of a dam on Naktul mountain to store snowmelt for summer irrigation, calling it a potential boon for local agriculture. The MP agreed to initiate a project proposal under relevant central schemes. Munshi also raised the need to expedite the Batambis–Kanoor road project, labour issues with the BRO, and pending land compensation. The MP assured swift follow-up with concerned authorities.
Villagers across the constituency highlighted pressing issues including BSNL tower connectivity, shortage of teachers, non-functional hand pumps under the Jal Jeevan Mission, and lack of adequate health support through ASHA and ANM workers. The MP assured that each of these would be addressed in coordination with line departments.
At Archu, residents flagged winter water scarcity, upgradation of schools, and demand for a school bus. Similar developmental needs—such as setting up animal husbandry centres, making libraries functional, and creating an ice-skiing ground—were raised at Kaskarik, Ringo, and Thangbu. The MP encouraged youth to pursue self-employment and tourism-related activities, emphasizing that “government jobs are limited, but opportunities in entrepreneurship and winter sports are expanding.”
In Doks, villagers demanded better water supply, fencing of tanks, and creation of a weaving and digital library centre. At Grong, concerns over road disputes and water scarcity were raised, while at Stargah and Motirik, residents demanded link roads, water tanks, and improved medical access. The MP promised to prioritize these needs and push for timely execution.
Concluding his tour, the MP acknowledged lapses in the initial phase of the Jal Jeevan Mission and assured rectification in the upcoming phase. Expressing gratitude to the residents for their cooperation, he reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that “every genuine grievance is heard and resolved with accountability and urgency.”
