Kargil: In a vital step towards enhancing disaster preparedness and public safety, the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) Depot in Kargil conducted a large-scale Emergency Response Drill today.
The mock drill simulated a high-risk emergency scenario involving a suspected fuel leak and fire outbreak — a situation that demanded swift and coordinated action. Within moments of the simulated alert, multiple agencies sprang into action, testing their emergency response skills under real-time conditions.
Teams from the Indian Army, Border Roads Organisation (BRO), Fire & Emergency Services, Kargil District Police, and District Hospital Kargil took part in the exercise. Their joint response — from fire suppression and medical rescue to crowd control and traffic management — was carried out with speed, discipline, and efficiency.
Firefighters launched an immediate mock firefighting operation, while medics from the District Hospital simulated emergency treatment and casualty evacuation. The Indian Army and BRO assisted in securing the area and guiding evacuation procedures. Meanwhile, district police ensured smooth traffic movement and law and order throughout the exercise.
Senior officials from IOCL and the district administration closely monitored the drill. They praised the strong coordination among the departments and highlighted the importance of such drills in refining standard operating procedures and identifying areas for improvement.
“Safety is our highest priority. These drills help us stay prepared for any emergency, and we deeply appreciate the cooperation of all participating agencies,” said an IOCL spokesperson.
Emergency drills like this are particularly critical in high-altitude, strategically sensitive regions like Kargil.
The IOCL Kargil Depot’s initiative not only reinforces its safety protocols but also strengthens inter-agency collaboration for real-world crisis readiness.
