Nubra, April 20, 2026:
A crucial meeting of the Sub-Divisional Level Committee for the implementation of the National Manuscript Survey under the Gyan Bharatam Programme was held today in Nubra Sub-Division. The meeting was chaired by Jigmet Raftan, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Nubra.
The meeting underscored the importance of identifying, documenting, and preserving valuable manuscript heritage. Participants unanimously stressed the urgent need for conservation and safeguarding of rare manuscripts across the region.
Detailed discussions were held on the effective execution of the survey. It was decided that the sub-division will be divided into 10 survey zones to ensure systematic and comprehensive coverage. Each zone will be supervised by a designated Master Surveyor, who will lead teams to carry out the survey in a structured and time-bound manner.
The meeting witnessed participation from key stakeholders including Gashay Lobzang Zotpa, representatives from Diskit and Yarma Gonpa monasteries, Tsewang Paljore, Sonam Dolkar, and Dr. Mingyur, along with subject experts and appointed surveyors.
The initiative marks a significant step towards preserving Ladakh’s rich cultural and historical legacy through systematic documentation and conservation efforts.
