KHALTSE, June 4: Bringing healthcare services closer to rural communities, the Health Department of Sham District on Thursday organized a Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) Camp at Alchi village, benefiting a large number of residents through specialized consultations, medical screenings and health awareness activities.
The camp was conducted with the objective of ensuring access to quality healthcare services for people living in remote areas and witnessed a strong response from the local community.
A team of healthcare professionals, including a gynecologist, dentist and medical officers, examined and treated patients during the camp. Various laboratory investigations were carried out, while residents were also screened for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension, diabetes and other chronic health conditions.
In addition to medical consultations, the health team conducted awareness sessions focusing on disease prevention, personal hygiene, nutrition and the importance of adopting healthy lifestyle practices.
Officials said the initiative forms part of the department’s continued efforts to strengthen healthcare outreach and ensure early detection and management of common health issues, particularly in rural and far-flung areas.
The camp was widely appreciated by local residents, who welcomed the availability of specialized medical services at their doorstep. Villagers expressed gratitude to the Health Department for facilitating access to healthcare without the need to travel long distances.
Health officials reiterated their commitment to organizing similar outreach programmes in remote villages to improve public health outcomes and ensure equitable access to healthcare services across the district.
