Kargil, Feb 7:
A mass awareness programme on drug abuse and illicit trafficking was organised at Panchayat Ghar-A, Trespone, by the Youth Educational Society Trespone in collaboration with the District De-Addiction Centre (DDAC) Kargil, religious organisations IKMT and JUIAKL, and Police Station Sankoo.
The programme witnessed active participation from coaching centre students, parents and members of the local community, aiming to sensitise society about the rising drug menace.
Addressing the gathering, Syed Raza Razvi of JUIAKL highlighted the harmful effects of drug abuse and called for collective efforts with DDAC and religious organisations to spread awareness among youth.
Dr. Sheikh Ghulam Hussain Abidi of IKMT stressed the serious social and health consequences of substance abuse and urged parents and society to fulfil their moral responsibilities in preventing drug addiction. He also called for close coordination with DDAC Kargil to guide young individuals towards a healthy lifestyle.
Sub-Inspector Feroz Ahmad, SHO Sankoo, briefed participants about the growing drug menace and explained legal provisions related to drug-related offences, urging students to stay vigilant and avoid illegal activities.
Project Manager DDAC Kargil, Imtiyaz Hussain, highlighted the increasing concern of substance abuse in the district and informed participants about free treatment and rehabilitation services available at the centre. He encouraged individuals to seek timely help and remain cautious about drug use.
Principal HSS Trespone, Sajjad Hussain, emphasised the crucial role of parents in monitoring and guiding children, while Dr. Syed Abbas explained the causes of addiction and suggested preventive measures, including maintaining strong parent-child communication.
Executive Councillor Agha Syed Mujtaba also addressed the gathering, highlighting the dangers of drug abuse and stressing the need for parental involvement and community-based awareness initiatives. He appreciated the Youth Educational Society Trespone for organising the programme.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Chairman Youth Educational Society Trespone, Syed Jamal, who expressed gratitude to all participating organisations and dignitaries for their efforts in promoting awareness and guiding youth towards a drug-free future.
