Leh: On the solemn occasion of Ashura, the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) B.D. Mishra (Retd), extended heartfelt greetings to the Muslim brothers and sisters of Ladakh.
In a message shared by the Office of the Lt. Governor, Mishra highlighted the deep spiritual significance of Ashura. For Shia Muslims, the day marks the martyrdom of Imam Hussain in the historic Battle of Karbala, a symbol of sacrifice and unwavering faith. For Sunni Muslims, Ashura also commemorates the parting of the Red Sea by Prophet Moses and the salvation of the Israelites.
“May this solemn occasion continue to remind us of the teaching of Imam Hussain of the importance of prayer and forgiveness,” the Lt. Governor said in his message.
The message reflects Ladakh’s spirit of communal harmony and shared respect for all religious traditions, especially on days of profound significance like Ashura.
