Leh: The University of Ladakh has postponed the interviews for Associate Professors and Assistant Professors, originally scheduled for December 5 and 6, 2025, following persistent pressure from the Ladakh Research Scholars Forum (LRSF).
The official notice from the Office of the Registrar cited “unavoidable circumstances” and stated that the revised schedule would be announced later. The interviews were part of Advertisement No. 6 of 2023, issued on December 21, 2023.
The postponement follows a Facebook post by LRSF Chief Coordinator Dr. Mutasif Hussain, who warned that the forum would be compelled to protest outside the Vice Chancellor’s office and residence if their demands were not addressed.
Speaking to IndusDispatch, Dr. Hussain elaborated that the forum’s concerns included lack of clarity over the university’s recruitment process, subject selection, reservation policies, and the appointment of faculty members on key positions, particularly contract-based roles.
Dr. Hussain criticized the handling of the selection process, stating that shortlisted candidates were informed privately via email without transparency, and that some contract appointments bypassed standard procedures.
He also clarified that legal challenges regarding these appointments were already underway in court.
Following the university’s decision to postpone the interviews, Dr. Hussain congratulated the teaching and student community of Ladakh, calling it “a victory for Ladakh and LRSF personally,” and hailed it as a step toward ensuring transparency and fairness in the university’s future recruitment processes.
