Leh, April 7: Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Tuesday launched the Jung sJabs Outreach Programme at Sheynam Community Hall, reinforcing the Administration’s push for doorstep delivery of public services across Ladakh.
Organised under the tagline “Administration at Your Doorsteps,” the initiative aims to ensure saturation of welfare schemes in villages by making essential services easily accessible, particularly in remote and far-flung areas of Leh district.
Multiple government departments set up dedicated stalls at the venue, offering a wide range of services including revenue assistance, Aadhaar enrolment, banking facilities, healthcare, social and labour welfare, as well as support for agriculture, horticulture, and animal husbandry.
Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor said the outreach programme reflects the Administration’s commitment to bringing governance closer to the people. Highlighting Ladakh’s vast terrain and scattered population, he stressed that such initiatives are vital to reduce the need for citizens to travel long distances for basic services.
Reiterating the vision of “minimum government, maximum governance” as envisaged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Saxena said the programme ensures that no citizen is deprived of welfare benefits due to geographical challenges.
He also encouraged the youth of Ladakh to adopt entrepreneurship and explore opportunities in tourism, handicrafts, and handloom sectors, rather than depending solely on government jobs. He pointed out that local products such as apricots and pashmina possess global quality but require better branding and marketing to gain international recognition, assuring full administrative support in this regard.
Highlighting tourism prospects, Saxena said increased flight operations would boost tourist inflow and benefit local stakeholders. He added that efforts are underway in coordination with the Ministry of Civil Aviation to operationalise commercial flights from Kargil Airport.
On environmental concerns, the Lieutenant Governor noted the paradox of water scarcity despite the presence of glaciers in Ladakh. He said the Administration is working on creating water bodies for irrigation and expanding green cover across the region.
Earlier, the Lieutenant Governor inspected departmental stalls and distributed certificates among beneficiaries. Deputy Commissioner Leh Romil Singh Donk briefed about the outreach initiative, stating that the programme serves as a platform for grievance redressal and improved citizen engagement.
Senior officials, local representatives, and a large number of residents attended the event.
