Leh, Dec 8: The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Shri Kavinder Gupta, inaugurated the newly upgraded Ladakh Model School, formerly a Primary Model School, now functioning as a Middle School under the Samagra Shiksha programme, marking a significant step forward in Ladakh’s education sector.

Addressing parents, students, and teachers, the Lt Governor emphasized that the upgradation represents a long-term investment in the dreams and growth of Ladakh’s children, reinforcing the UT Administration’s commitment to quality education for all in a safe and inclusive environment.

He highlighted that the upgrade enables children in Ibex Colony to continue schooling up to Class 8 locally, reducing travel burdens, enhancing safety, lowering dropout rates, and increasing engagement, especially among girls. Citing the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) and Samagra Shiksha, Shri Kavinder noted that reforms are making quality education accessible even in geographically challenging regions like Ladakh.

The Lt Governor stressed that education should extend beyond academics to include sports, culture, arts, values, and life skills, integrating modern learning with Ladakh’s rich cultural heritage. He acknowledged the pivotal role of teachers in shaping students’ futures and urged parents to actively participate in their children’s education.

Shri Kavinder also toured the new classrooms and Bal Vatikas, praising the collective efforts of officials, teachers, and the local community in realizing this milestone. He expressed hope that the school would serve as a centre of excellence, inspiring Ladakh’s youth toward brighter futures.

Administrative Secretary, School Education Department, Smt Bhanu Prabha, shared insights on the department’s plans to upgrade 50 more government schools into model schools with advanced teaching facilities, including digital classrooms and innovative teaching methods.

The event saw participation from ADDC Leh, Sonam Nurboo; Director LEDeG, Eshey Tondup; Headmaster, Ladakh Model School, Sonam Gyaltsan; Nambardar, Ibex Colony, Sonam Rigzin; Village Education Committee members; officials, teachers, students, parents, and other district representatives.

Parents expressed satisfaction, noting some had shifted their children from private schools to Ladakh Model School for better quality education.
