Leh: Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta has called for inclusive education for monks studying at monastic institutions in Ladakh, urging that mainstream subjects be taught alongside religious texts to create a more diverse and holistic learning environment.

During a meeting with representatives of the Ladakh Buddhist Association and Ladakh Gonpa Association at the LG Secretariat, the LG said adequate teachers must be appointed in gompa schools to ensure young monks receive quality education. He also emphasised imparting vocational skills to help monks become self-reliant.

In a separate interaction, Kunzes Dolma, UNESCO GRO–Geothermal Training Program fellow, briefed the LG on training opportunities in geothermal energy, gender equality, fisheries, and other fields at the GRO Centre in Iceland, fully sponsored by the Icelandic government.

Another delegation of Rehbar-e-Khel (ReT) teachers met the LG to raise their concerns.

Reaffirming the UT Administration’s commitment to making Ladakh a carbon-neutral region, the LG highlighted the need to boost renewable energy initiatives. He also assured that proper recruitment rules will be framed to ensure only qualified teachers are appointed, strengthening the education system in Ladakh.
