Leh : Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta has pledged to transform Ladakh into a global destination for tourism, culture, and commerce. He made the announcement during a felicitation programme organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industries in Jammu.
Highlighting Ladakh’s vast untapped potential and strategic importance, the Lt Governor said the region is poised to emerge as a major center of economic activity in the Himalayas.
He cited ongoing infrastructure milestones, including the much-awaited Zojila Tunnel, which he said will significantly enhance connectivity between Ladakh and the rest of the country, opening new avenues for development.
In a major announcement, the Lt Governor revealed plans to promote Siachen as a tourism destination, a move aimed at boosting local employment and unlocking fresh economic opportunities for border communities.
The Lt Governor also expressed his commitment to strengthening social and economic ties between Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, hinting at ongoing efforts to enable the Shri Amarnath Yatra via the Ladakh route in the near future.
“The future of Ladakh lies in sustainable tourism, cultural promotion, and strategic commerce. Our priority is to integrate the region with national and global opportunities while ensuring benefits reach local communities,” the Lt Governor said.
Local stakeholders and traders welcomed the announcements, expressing hope that the initiatives will boost livelihoods and enhance Ladakh’s visibility on the global tourism map.
