Leh: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Kavinder Gupta on Sunday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and discussed key issues concerning public welfare, infrastructure development and governance in the Union Territory.

During the meeting, the Lieutenant Governor briefed the Prime Minister on major developmental initiatives and flagship welfare schemes being implemented in Ladakh. He highlighted progress on critical infrastructure projects, including road and air connectivity, aimed at improving access and service delivery in the region’s difficult terrain and strategic border areas.

Gupta also apprised the Prime Minister of efforts to promote sustainable tourism while safeguarding Ladakh’s fragile ecology and rich cultural heritage. Measures to generate livelihood opportunities for local youth, particularly through tourism and allied sectors, were discussed.

Issues related to strengthening healthcare and education facilities in remote and border areas, along with the effective implementation of central government schemes, also figured prominently in the discussions. The Lieutenant Governor underlined the administration’s focus on inclusive, people-centric development, with special attention to far-flung areas facing extreme climatic conditions.

He further shared feedback received from the grassroots on public aspirations and developmental needs, stressing the importance of continued central support for accelerating Ladakh’s growth trajectory.

The Prime Minister appreciated the initiatives undertaken for inclusive development in Ladakh and reiterated the Centre’s commitment to the Union Territory’s overall progress and the welfare of its people.
