Leh, November 8: The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Shri Kavinder Gupta, today attended the vibrant Thiksey Gustor Festival at the historic Thiksey Monastery, celebrating Ladakh’s enduring spiritual and cultural traditions.
The Thiksey Gustor, known for its sacred masked dances (Chhams) and ancient rituals, symbolises the victory of good over evil and conveys a universal message of peace, harmony, and compassion.
Addressing the gathering, the Lt Governor said that monastic festivals like Thiksey Gustor are living expressions of Ladakh’s rich cultural and spiritual legacy, representing centuries of faith and wisdom.
“The vibrant culture of Ladakh, deeply rooted in Tibetan Buddhism, is a living tradition that touches every visitor to this land. Festivals like Thiksey Gustor are not mere spectacles—they are soulful expressions of our heritage and the enduring wisdom of our ancestors,” he remarked.
He also highlighted the vital role of monasteries in preserving Ladakh’s identity, noting that they serve as centres of faith, education, and community life, fostering values of ahimsa, compassion, and moral discipline.
During the visit, the Lt Governor met His Eminence Thiksey Rinpoche, received his blessings, and discussed Ladakh’s development roadmap focusing on environmental preservation, cultural safeguarding, and youth empowerment through education and innovation. He was accompanied by First Lady Smt. Bindu Gupta.
The Thiksey Gustor Festival continues to draw devotees, pilgrims, and tourists from across the world, offering a profound glimpse into Ladakh’s timeless heritage through mesmerising mask dances, intricate mandalas, and spiritual rituals, symbolising the eternal triumph of light over darkness.
