Leh, Feb 12: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, on Wednesday reaffirmed the Union Territory Administration’s commitment towards comprehensive and inclusive development of Ladakh while interacting with various delegations at the LG Secretariat.
Several delegations from across the Union Territory called on the Lieutenant Governor and apprised him of issues related to development, renewable energy, tourism promotion, connectivity and social welfare.
A joint delegation from the Ladakh Renewable Energy Development Agency (LREDA) and Kargil Renewable Energy Development Agency (KREDA) briefed the Lieutenant Governor on the functioning and progress of hydroelectric power projects in Leh and Kargil districts. The LG discussed the importance of strengthening renewable energy infrastructure to meet the region’s growing power demands in a sustainable manner.
A delegation associated with the Pangong Frozen Lake Marathon also met the Lieutenant Governor and informed him about the upcoming fourth edition of the event scheduled to begin on February 24. The delegation highlighted the increasing recognition of the marathon and its contribution towards promoting winter tourism in Ladakh.
Delegations from Lingshed and Chumathang raised several local developmental issues and tourism-related initiatives in their respective regions. The Chumathang delegation particularly emphasised the tourism potential of the famous Chumathang Hot Springs and sought further infrastructural support to promote the destination.
Meanwhile, a group of unemployed veterinary graduates called on the Lieutenant Governor and apprised him of concerns related to employment opportunities in their sector. Additionally, a visually impaired citizen, Hussain, met the LG and shared his personal issues along with concerns related to his visually impaired daughter.
The Lieutenant Governor gave a patient hearing to all delegations and assured them that their issues would be examined on priority. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to ensuring balanced and inclusive development across Ladakh.
Highlighting Ladakh’s immense potential, the LG stated that the region holds vast opportunities in adventure and wellness tourism, along with renewable energy, and stressed the need for coordinated efforts among departments and stakeholders to harness these prospects for long-term development.
