Leh: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, has called for strengthening education, sports, and women’s participation to empower the youth of the Union Territory, while also reviewing law-and-order matters with senior officers.
Interacting with a delegation from Turtuk led by former Councillor Abdul Ali, the LG stressed that students from Ladakh must have access to quality education and modern facilities to compete at par with the best.
He urged more women to take the lead in promoting the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative envisioned by the Prime Minister.
The delegation sought the establishment of a Government Degree College in Turtuk, upgradation of infrastructure at the Army Goodwill School, and recognition of Balti among Ladakh’s state languages.
In another meeting, members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) briefed the LG about a football tournament at Spituk Football Stadium as part of a drug-awareness campaign.
A delegation from the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMFL) led by Branch Manager Yatharth Sharma, as well as outsourced anaesthesia technicians under the National Health Mission, also called on the LG seeking intervention for permanent posts in the Health and Medical Education Department.
The LG emphasised skill development, entrepreneurship, and sports as tools to keep youth away from substance abuse while creating employment opportunities. He urged Ladakhi youth to focus on the region’s development instead of negative practices.
Later, SSP Leh Shruti Arora, IPS, along with SDM Nubra Mukul Beniwal, IAS, and IPS officer Rishabh Shukla (2023 batch), paid a courtesy call on the LG. They briefed him on administrative and law-and-order matters, highlighting initiatives to improve public service delivery, community safety, and coordination in remote and sensitive areas.
Appreciating their efforts, Gupta encouraged the officers to continue working with dedication, professionalism, and a people-first approach to address local challenges effectively.
