Leh : The Ministry of Home Affairs has honoured three Ladakh Police personnel with the Medal for Meritorious Service ahead of Independence Day, recognising their outstanding devotion to duty, operational efficiency, and professional integrity in the challenging high-altitude conditions of the Union Territory.
The awardees include Sub Inspector Tashi Wangail (CID Headquarters), Assistant Sub Inspector Mohd Ismail (Police Headquarters Ladakh), and Head Constable Skalzang Dorjey. They are among 758 recipients nationwide this year, of which 635 medals were conferred on police personnel across India.
The Lieutenant Governor’s Office in Ladakh also commended the awardees, calling the recognition a matter of pride for the entire administration. It highlighted their achievements as an inspiration for young officers in Ladakh’s relatively new police force, formed after the region’s bifurcation from Jammu and Kashmir in 2019.

Director General of Police Ladakh, Dr. S.D. Singh Jamwal, IPS, congratulated the trio, praising their commitment and professionalism. He said their service sets a benchmark for the force and inspires colleagues to uphold similar standards of dedication.
Presented annually by the Central Government, the Medal for Meritorious Service honours consistent and exemplary contributions marked by adherence to protocols and ethical conduct. In Ladakh, this recognition also reflects the resilience and adaptability of police personnel who operate in a unique frontier environment, tackling logistical and climatic challenges to maintain law and order.
