Leh, May 11: Shurbir Singh on Monday evening conducted a major on-ground inspection of Leh Old Town to address long-pending civic problems, directing departments to prepare comprehensive plans for sewage management, improved walkways, street lighting, and organized electricity infrastructure.
Accompanied by Administrative Secretary PWD Baseer-ul-Haq Choudhary, Deputy Commissioner Leh Romil Singh Donk and senior officers from PWD, PDD, and Municipal Committee Leh, the Divisional Commissioner inspected several congested areas of the historic Old Town.
During the visit, officials reviewed key civic concerns including drainage and sewage issues, tangled electricity wiring, dark spots, poor waste management, and damaged footpaths.
Taking serious note of the situation, the Divisional Commissioner directed departments to prepare detailed project proposals for scientific drainage disposal, proper power infrastructure, and modern yet heritage-friendly walkways using traditional slate stones to preserve the unique identity of Leh Old Town.
He also stressed the need for adequate street lighting and improved sanitation measures to ensure better facilities for both residents and tourists.
Interacting with local residents during the inspection, the Divisional Commissioner assured them that all genuine concerns would be addressed in a planned and time-bound manner. He further instructed departments to execute developmental works efficiently while ensuring minimum inconvenience to the public.
