Leh, Feb 10: The District Administration Leh on Tuesday organised an awareness workshop to mark Safer Internet Day 2026 under the theme “Smart Tech, Safe Choices: Exploring the Safe and Responsible Use of AI.” The session was chaired by Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Leh, Sonam Nurboo, and attended by officials from various government departments and Village Level Entrepreneurs from Common Service Centres.
In his inaugural address, ADDC Sonam Nurboo highlighted society’s growing dependence on the internet and said the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence has raised global concerns regarding digital safety and ethical usage. He stressed the importance of public awareness to protect individuals from cyber fraud and urged responsible and cautious use of digital technologies.
During the workshop, an awareness presentation was delivered highlighting the increasing role of Artificial Intelligence in everyday life, including applications such as chatbots, voice assistants, image recognition and fraud detection systems. The session also emphasised the importance of cyber hygiene and educated participants about common cyber threats, including phishing attacks, OTP and UPI frauds, deepfakes and digital arrest scams.
Participants were advised to follow essential cyber safety practices such as enabling two-factor authentication, regularly updating software, using strong passwords, avoiding sharing sensitive personal information, exercising caution while using public Wi-Fi networks and carefully verifying suspicious links. They were also encouraged to monitor their digital presence to prevent misuse of personal data.
The presentation further highlighted the expanding role of Artificial Intelligence across sectors such as healthcare, education and governance. A pledge ceremony on the safe and responsible use of AI was also conducted, and awareness materials were distributed among participants.
During the session, participants were informed about the upcoming India AI Impact Summit 2026 scheduled to be held in New Delhi. The workshop also introduced the ISEA Mobile App, an initiative of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), aimed at promoting cyber security awareness and safe digital practices.
