Leh: As part of the ongoing “Month of Compassion” initiative, the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Department, in collaboration with the Health Department, launched the “Stop Diarrhoea Campaign” across Leh district. The campaign is focused on raising awareness about the prevention and treatment of diarrhoea, particularly among children and other vulnerable groups.
A key component of the campaign is the establishment of ORS-Zinc Corners at all Anganwadi Centres in the district. These were set up on July 10, 2025, and are now serving as vital access points for the distribution of Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) packets and Zinc tablets. The initiative ensures that families and caregivers can easily obtain these essential treatments during episodes of diarrhoea.
The campaign emphasizes the importance of good hygiene practices, early treatment, and the use of ORS and Zinc as simple yet effective methods to manage and prevent diarrhoea-related complications, especially among young children.
Health workers and Anganwadi staff have been mobilized to conduct door-to-door awareness drives, community meetings, and demonstrations, ensuring that essential messages reach even the most remote households.
Officials from both departments highlighted that the campaign is a significant step toward improving child health and reducing diarrhoea-related morbidity and mortality in the region. The joint effort reflects the administration’s strong commitment to compassionate governance and preventive healthcare.
