Leh, Jan 29:
The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Leh, on Thursday conducted a Pan-India Rescue and Rehabilitation Campaign to curb child and adolescent labour, through a joint inspection drive led by the District Task Force (DTF).
The inspection was carried out by officials from the Assistant Labour Commissioner, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Education Officer, Child Development Project Officer (Leh), Special Juvenile Police Unit (SJPU), and Open Shelter services.
Teams inspected shops, restaurants, dhabas and small establishments across Leh’s main market areas, from Skampari Market to Manekhang Bazaar, to ensure that no child below 18 years of age was engaged in any form of labour.
The drive was conducted in accordance with the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 (Amended 2016) and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, with officials verifying age records, working conditions and legal compliance.
The District Administration issued strict warnings to employers, stating that any violation of child or adolescent labour laws will invite stringent legal action.
DCPU Leh reiterated that such inspection and enforcement drives will continue throughout the year, especially in identified hotspot areas, to safeguard the rights, safety and well-being of children.
