Kargil : Administrative Secretary for Law and Justice, UT Ladakh, Qureshi Tariq Mehmood chaired a comprehensive review meeting of the Law Department at TFC Kargil with legal officers, associates, and standing counsel.
The meeting focused on the functioning of the department and litigation matters concerning various government departments. Secretary Qureshi stressed that Legal Assistants must act as a bridge between the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) and the Standing Counsel, and advised that objections be filed only through OIC. He also suggested procurement of digital software to assist law officers and counsel in their work.
The Secretary assured standing counsel that their grievances, including status upgradation, would be addressed. He said the administration would explore the possibility of appointing an additional counsel for both Leh and Kargil districts.
Further, Qureshi directed that all communication be routed through the District Litigation Office (DLO), and called for a consolidated list of subordinate court cases to remove gaps in documentation. He also gave a patient hearing to the issues of post creation, accommodation for law officers at Leh, and other challenges, assuring efforts to resolve them.
Later, he visited the District Litigation Office in Kargil, interacted with Associate Law Officers, and reviewed office functioning.
