Leh: Taking cognisance of the complaints received from the office of Ladakh Buddhist Association, Leh regarding damages caused to various petroglyphs by the workers of Border Road Organization (BRO) during the construction/widening of the road from Khaltsi to Gurgu-dho, the Chairman/CEC, Adv. Tashi Gyalson convened a meeting today with the Chief Engineers of Project Himank and Project Vijayak of BRO to discuss the issues in detail.
ADDC Leh, Sonam Norboo; ADC Leh, Sonam Chosjor, and SE R&B, Nisar Ahmed also attended the meeting.
CEC Gyalson highlighted the importance of petroglyphs being a tangible part of Ladakh’s rich heritage and emphasised the need to preserve these petroglyphs at any cost.
He further directed Chief Engineer, Project Vijayak to sensitise their subordinates and the ground workers on the need to protect such sites while at work knowing that there is a huge presence of petroglyphs in that belt.
After a threadbare discussion and deliberation, it was decided in the meeting to constitute a committee that would conduct a joint survey cum field reece on the coming Monday starting from Khaltsi to Gurgu-dho.
The committee would be comprised of the Councillors of Lamayuru, Skurbuchan, Revenue Department Khaltsi, ASI, and Researcher Petroglyphs expert, Prof. Tashi Ldawa accordingly joint Survey/Recee shall be conducted on Monday by the committee from Khaltsi -Gurgurdho.
During the meeting, issues regarding land under BRO’s possession at Khaltsi were also discussed at length among the officials. CEC Gyalson issued an on-spot direction to the Chief Engineer, Project Vijayak to submit a report on the status of activities on the said land at the earliest.
Meanwhile, CEC Gyalson also spoke to SDM Khaltsi and directed him to submit the detailed report and status of land from his office to the office of CEC LAHDC Leh.
He further informed that necessary action will be taken on the examination of the reports from the CE and SDM accordingly.
